The show of the humpback whales

Bubble Net Feeding In Alaska we had the privilege to witness this singular humpback whales behavior. When herring and other small schooling fish abound in mid to late summer, some whales change their feeding routine into a highly choreographed drama. One whale swims below a school and releases a column of bubbles. Others surround the wall of bubbles and flash their pectoral fins to keep the fish inside the net of bubbles. On call of the leader, they all dive then turn and race to the surface, mouths agape, erupting head first out of the water, capturing as many fish as they can in their expanding mouths. A true natural spectacle that I will never forget !
